Maybe I can’t write a sentence or one word at all,
But does that mean you can push me against the wall?
Maybe I can’t read as good as the rest of the class,
But does that mean you have to trip me as I walk past?
Maybe I can’t kick a ball as far as the best,
But does that mean I stand out from the rest?
Maybe I can’t shout as loud as you can,
But does that really make me any less of a man?
Maybe I’m a different colour, a different race,
But does that give you the right to hit my face?
Maybe my glasses make my face look round,
But does that mean you have to throw them to the ground?
Maybe I’m poor, and have no money,
But does that mean you can mock me so your friends think you’re funny?
Maybe I wear clothes by Adidas or Nike,
But does that give you the right to steal things I like?
Maybe I’ll never win, and I’ll always lose,
But could you leave me alone? Do I get to choose?
Maybe you don’t care if I’m alive or dead,
But you won’t be the one visiting a hospital bed.
If there was only one thing that I wish would sink into your head,
“We are all the same. We all bleed red…”
1)I chose we all bleed red for most shocking poem becauseit hopefully will be a reality check for someone, because we are all the same and some people need to look past them selves and realize they are not better.
2)The feeling of hurt, abuse , sorrow, and other emotions are expressed well. I really hope people can take the message from this poem and use it in a positive way.
3) My favorite line from this poem is Maybe you don't care if I'm alive or dead, But you won't be the one visiting a hospital bed.
Alone
By: Nichola Pearce
No one to cuddle
No one to hold
No one to warm me
when nights are cold
No one to watch me
as I lay asleep
No one to dry
my tears when I weep
No one to laugh
when I tell a joke
No one to buy me
a drink when I'm broke
No one to care for and
No one to fight
No one to kiss me
or tell me Good Night
No one to thank
when they do a good deed
No one to cook for and
No one to feed
No one to walk with
No one to phone
No one to live for
I feel so alone
1) I picked Alone by: Nichola Pearce for most emotive, because I feel that everyone can connect to it. Everyone has had the feeling of being alone.
2) The feeling of no one being there is expresed strongly, you get a sence that the person is searching for something to live for.
3) My favorite line from this poem is No one to live for.
Where the Sidewalk Ends
from the book "Where the Sidewalk Ends" (1974)
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
and before the street begins,
and there the grass grows soft and white,
and there the sun burns crimson bright,
and there the moon-bird rests from his flight
to cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
and the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
we shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow
and watch where the chalk-white arrows go
to the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
and we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
for the children, they mark, and the children, they know,
the place where the sidewalk ends.

1)I chose Where the Sidewalk ends by: Shel Silverstein for most interesting style, because no one can do what he has done; he is impossible to imitate. His style is unique
2) Reading Shel Silverstein you cant have a serious mindset. He will always make you think and give you a chuckle, just take in what he gives you.
3)My favorite line from this poem is the children, they know, the place where the sidewalk ends.
Ticklish TomDid you hear 'bout Ticklish Tom?He got tickled by his mom. Wiggled and giggled and fell on the floor, Laughed and rolled right out the door. All the way to school and then He got tickled by his friends. Laughed till he fell off his stool, Laughed and rolled right out of school Down the stairs and finally stopped Till he got tickled by a cop. And all the more that he kept gigglin', All the more folks kept ticklin'. He shrieked and screamed and rolled around, Laughed his way right out of town. Through the country down the road, He got tickled by a toad. Past the mountains across the plain, Tickled by the falling rain, Tickled by the soft brown grass, Tickled by the clouds that passed. Giggling, rolling on his back He rolled on the railroad track. Rumble, rumble, whistle, roar-- Tom ain't ticklish any more. 1) I chose Ticklish Tom by: Shel Silverstein for most humerous simply because it made me laugh. 2) I read this poem because it brightings my day and I cant help but laugh. 3) My favorite line from this poem is Tom ain't ticklish any more. Would you just listen By: Tara Kay Would you just listen and please don't say a word, just yet, I'd like you to think back to the very first time we met, How you felt around me? The memories we shared, And just remember that once upon a time, you really cared. Now think about how we parted, and how much I cried, But please don't speak, remember that I never ever lied, That I told you the honest truth about why we were to split, But now I'd like you to know that my heart broke bit by bit. The pain was deep, unbearable and painful, for so many years, I'll never forget all the sadness, all the uncontrollable tears, Slowly I am rebuilding my life, I am content with what I've got, And although it is hard I am beginning to forget what I have not. You were a special part of my life that I will never forget, A part of my life that broke my heart, but that I don't regret, You gave me some happy memories that I'll keep in my heart, Although sometimes I wish that you and I didn't have to part. You were my first love and my true love, that will always be so, After all of the heartache, sadness and never ending pain, I know, You and I had something special and that will never change, Because I love you and loving someone else will always seem strange. Would you just listen and please don't say a word, not ever, I'd like you to remember that once upon a time, we said forever, That I had hopes and dreams, that I was the one who threw them away, And this is something I will always regret until my dying day. 1)I chose the poem Would You Just Listen By: Tara Kay for most musical, for the simple fact that if I could write a song this is what id write about, and in my mind I can sing it 2) Dont ask questions, but the poem says it all, I can easily conntect to it 3) My favorite line from this poem is, you were a special part of my life. |
Get human
By: Cin Salach
This is what we do best:Hurt each other.
Pushing and pulling
Until flesh fades to black, blue.
The border between love and hate
Is a canyon of thin lines
Crossed again and again.
You want to believe your body
Is not conditioned for this until,
Swallowing whole skyfuls of air,
You remember your own birth.
The slow process of surfacing.
The cutting of the cord.
The first thin line, crossed.
This is what we do best:
Say good-bye before
The wet wording of hello
Has even had time to dry.
Now the border is a single breath,
A gesture, a thought
On the tip of your tongue
Gone before you could speak it.
It is awkward to think of love
And hate so close
They could almost touch.
Now the border is you.
1) I chose Get human by Cin Salach for most thought prevoking because it inspired me to change, consider my own life.
2) I feel a little angry. I feel people need to change and consider there own lives.
3) My favorite line from this poem is, It is awkward to think of love and hate so close they could almost touch.
You Have the Right Not To Remain Silent
By: Cin Salach
I the air and say
I had nothing to do with it, I wasn’t there.
I was there, but I wasn’t looking.
I was looking, but I wasn’t seeing
I was seeing, but I wasn’t caring.
I could throw my arms
In the air and say
What’s the point?
Nothing that dull can ever be
Sharpened, really.
Nothing that sharp can ever be
Softened, really.
I could throw my arms
In the air and say
Just lay me back down to sleep, please.
It’s six a.m. in Chi-town
And I am dreaming of you.
Its six a.m. in Moscow
And I am dreaming of you.
It’s six a.m. in Berlin,
And a wall comes tumbling down.
Piece of rock are marketable here.
Signs of life have scarce.
while a flag of every color
flies over history, blowing
its ancient lesson across the land:
Silence is not golden.
Not here. Not ever.
Peace is not a quiet thing.
Do not let them hold your tongue.
And it’s six a.m. in Prague
And the dream has been woken.
Whispers wind their way through the square,
People’s backs,
Blow across their hearts,
Tell them to speak up:
Freedom for all! Freedom for all!
And somewhere a world
Starts over from the top.
Determined to get it right
This time, to play fair.
To never let things
Get this way again.
And somewhere peace begins
To pound in someone’s heart.
Make its way up the throat.
Into the mouth.
To become a voice.
For someone to hear.
And another to translate,
And another to act on,
And another to live for,
And another to die for,
And I could throw my arms
In the air and let them
Fall around you.
Hold you.
Know you.
Whisper peace.
Scream it out loud.
Because silence is not golden.
Not here, not ever.
1) I chose You Have the Right Not to Remain Silent by: Cin Salach for most inspiring because it reminded me of human trafficking, it made me want to do something about it.
2)When I read this I feel a little hopeless, but in the end I can picture someone standing up and saying something.
3)My favorite line from this poem is I could throw my arms in the air and say I had nothing to do with it!
With You
With you
I made up all the questions
So you could have all the answers.
With you I left the lights on
So I could watch you, slowly,
One by one by all,
Bread day into night.
I locked hundreds of doors
And left my map at home
To see where you would lead me.
To see the priority of moments you intended
With me holding your hand and you holding my breath.
And the last thing I recall…
I was dancing on a rooftop,
Sending my echo down a mountaintop,
Starfish reeling me down to sea level.
The last thing…
I was walking barefoot
On the sandy bottom of the world
Looking for necessary treasure, flashy fins
And all the oxygen dripping into the salty sea.
I was shedding sky, breathing oceans.
I was racing dolphins.
I was kissing the moon goodbye.
And as I surfaced near the beginning
As you let go of earth’s anchor
I was knee deep in the muddy center of the world
Seconds away from your garden.
We gazed over god’s ravine.
You rubbed mint leaves into the curves of my back.
And with each step forward
We talked to strange species.
High flying hawks conversed with the wind.
1) I chose With you by Cin Salach for most beautifull because I fet the feeling of love
2) In this poem I feel the uncertenty of love, the part of being scared but praying it works out.
3) My favorite line from this poem is, with me holding your hand and you holding my breath.
